On April 30, 2025, Lam An Le will begin a 1,000 km hike from San Jose to Little Saigon in Westminster, California, to honor the Vietnamese Boat People who fled Vietnam after the fall of Saigon. The hike will serve as a tribute to those who perished at sea, celebrate the survivors, and raise awareness about the Vietnamese refugee experience in the U.S.
The Symbolism of the Journey
Each ten kilometers of Lam An Le’s hike represents one year of the Vietnamese Boat People’s presence in the United States, starting from 1975. The journey will begin at Evergreen Valley College in San Jose, home to one of the largest Vietnamese populations outside Vietnam, and will conclude in Little Saigon, Westminster, a central hub of the Vietnamese American community.
